Last month, Soundgarden unveiled the video for their single, “By Crooked Steps,” directed by Dave Grohl. Now, the Foo Fighters frontman has revealed that he got the idea for the video immediately after he first heard the album.
“I was on vacation and they sent me their new record which is awesome,” he tells Fuse in a video interview. “I didn’t know if it was gonna be a single or if they wanted to make a video or what, so…I called my manager and I said, ‘I think I have an idea for a Soundgarden video.’”
Grohl then sent an email to drummer Matt Cameron with the video’s humorous concept, which features the band as a Segway-driving biker gang out for a night on the town. “For Soundgarden to do something like that, they’re not known for their ‘wicked’ sense of humor,” he explains. “Although, they are really f**king funny people…they’re super dry and hilarious. But the idea of them on the Segways I thought, ‘You know, it could work.’”
